CA Higher Education Equity Coalition Creates Vision for a Statewide Longitudinal Data System

Last year, the California EDGE Coalition joined forces with the Education Trust-West, California Competes, the Campaign for College Opportunity, Public Advocates, and the Institute for College Access & Success to form the California Higher Education Equity Coalition.  Our shared vision is that every Californian, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or income has the skills and education they need to be upwardly mobile, participate in the workforce, and contribute to civic life.

As a step towards our goal of closing equity gaps, we are advocating for the creation of a statewide longitudinal education and training data system in California.  We believe that it is crucial to the success of the data system that it is independent, with a centralized data match, including information from preschool through the workforce, and accessible to variety of users.  Click here to read the full statement.

As a member of the Higher Ed Equity Coalition, EDGE believes that a statewide longitudinal data system can help close equity gaps and reduce barriers for adult learners.  EDGE’s long-term vision is for a data system that is publicly accessible and broadly inclusive of the education, workforce, relevant social service and corrections program data that individuals, policymakers, and researchers need to make informed decisions about education, training, and related support services.

EDGE will continue to work with the Administration and Legislature as the various policy proposals move through the process.
